Georgetown, Guyana – At a rally in support of detained activist Melissa Atwell-Holder, opposition MP Amanza Walton-Desir delivered a powerful speech, calling for resilience and unity.
Addressing the crowd at the Square of the Revolution, Walton-Desir declared, “History will record you as being on the right side. We are not afraid, and we will continue to stand up.” She praised those who turned out in solidarity, emphasizing that the movement transcends politics.
“She has national support, and they know that. That is what makes them afraid,” Walton-Desir said, referring to allegations that Atwell-Holder’s arrest was politically motivated. Atwell-Holder, a vocal critic of the Guyana Government, remains in a U.S. immigration detention facility.
With elections approaching, Walton-Desir urged the public to remain engaged. “We are coming to a time when our vote and our voice will determine the direction of this country,” she stated.
Supporters vowed to continue their calls for justice as Atwell-Holder awaits a bond hearing before her full case is heard in June.
