When Annie first started home economics in secondary school, she discovered a deep passion for cooking. However, as life unfolded, she didn’t pursue it seriously. Instead, she wanted to become an accountant, only to realize that working with numbers—and people in that capacity—wasn’t her true calling.
For Changa, dining out was often disappointing, with meals rarely meeting her expectations.
“That’s when a thought struck me: Why not change this? Determined to make a difference, I found myself drawn back into the kitchen. I started asking my mother countless questions, jotting down every little tip and trick she shared. In my free time, I experimented, refining my skills and reigniting my passion for food,” Annie said.
Further, she added, “It all started with a simple takeaway lunch from my kitchen. One order turned into another, and soon, my business was born.”
Balancing Motherhood and a Home-Based Business
Being a full-time mother to a newborn while managing a home-based catering business is both challenging and rewarding. Changa’s days begin at sunrise when her children wake up, kicking off a whirlwind of activity. As she prepares breakfast for her family, her mind is already racing through the catering orders for the day.
Once her baby is fed and settled, her older daughter steps in ans assists in taking deva for him. This allows Annie precious time to check emails and plan her menu. Multitasking becomes second nature when juggling a one-year-old and a growing business.
Throughout the day, she finds herself moving seamlessly between different roles—prepping ingredients, cooking, packaging meals, and managing nap times. When her little one dozes off, she seizes the opportunity to finalize orders and/or tidy up. Every moment counts in this busy but fulfilling life.

Crafting a Culinary Experience
“Annie’s Catering isn’t just about food—it’s about nostalgia, comfort, and culture. Every meal is an experience, reminiscent of granny’s kitchen, infused with rich spices and fresh, local ingredients. When you open a box from Annie’s Catering, the aroma alone is enough to transport you to a place of warmth and familiarity,” the young entrepreneur said.
Further she stated, “Setting clear goals has been instrumental in shaping my business. I dedicate specific times to creative brainstorming and menu development, ensuring that my offerings remain unique and enticing.”
Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Growth
One of the biggest challenges Changa faced was relocating after having her baby. The transition was tough, but she made a pivotal decision—to work from home and give it her all. Looking back, it was the most rewarding choice she could have made.
Looking ahead, she dreams of expanding her business further. Perhaps one day, she’ll even open a restaurant. Until then, she continuea to pour her heart into every dish, knowing that each meal brings joy to those who taste it.
