For Trinidad and Tobago Legions head coach Rayad Emrit, the identity of their opponents in the West Indies T20 Breakout League final is secondary to his team executing their plans and playing to their potential.
“At the onset, I thought these two teams were among the better ones in the tournament, and it was no surprise they finished in the top three,” Emrit said as his Legions await the winner of Friday’s Eliminator between the Windward Islands Infernos and Leeward Islands Thunder.
The Legions, who wrapped up their group stage campaign last Sunday with four wins and a solitary loss to the Thunder, secured direct passage to Saturday’s final at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Despite the wait for their next fixture, Emrit is certain his squad remains sharp.
“We knew this would have been a long week, but we tried to keep that competitiveness going with a game,” he said, referring to a practice match against a Red Force Invitational XI that included several senior players.
“The batters got a good hit, and the bowlers got a chance to bowl against stiffer opponents, and they handled themselves well. We will have another session (Friday), and then it’s about executing well on the day,” Emrit told Express.
The Legions will enter the final as favourites by virtue of their squad depth and home advantage. But Emrit insists his players won’t be lulled into complacency.
“We lost to the Leeward Islands, and we defeated the Windwards in the round-robin, but I think we have not played our best game. It does not matter who we play in the final. We just have to put on that all-round show,” he declared. Sportsmax
