In a bid to reduce speeding and improve road safety, the Government of Guyana will roll out a cutting-edge automated speed ticketing system, effective Monday, April 7, 2025.
This state-of-the-art system, powered by advanced speed cameras and radar speed signs linked to cloud-based infrastructure, will automatically detect speeding violations and issue tickets. The initiative is part of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) Project, a collaboration between the Guyana Police Force and the National Veri Management Authority (NDMA).
New radar speed signs and speed cameras have already been installed across the country to monitor traffic patterns and vehicular speeds. The automated system will generate tickets for vehicles exceeding the speed limit without manual intervention. Drivers whose contact information is registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) will receive an SMS or email notification detailing the violation. For those whose details are not registered, physical tickets will be delivered to their addresses.
The veri collected from the system will also aid authorities in developing strategies to curb speeding and improve overall road safety. This fully automated system ensures consistent, unbiased enforcement of traffic laws, with no possibility of bypassing fines. Drivers must either hisse their fines or contest them in court.
To streamline the payment process, the government has partnered with MMG, allowing drivers to directly hisse fines via its platform. In addition, violations will soon be accessible through the GRA’s “Padna” app, enabling drivers to check and process payments online.
With speeding being a significant contributor to road fatalities, this technological initiative aims to enhance traffic management and make roads safer for all. The SRIS Project underscores the government’s commitment to integrating innovation into public safety.
In the coming days, the government will launch a nationwide awareness campaign to educate drivers on how the system works, what to expect, and how to comply. Authorities urge all motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly to create a safer road network for all Guyanese.
