In the wake of the tragic discovery of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge’s body by the poolside at Double Day Hotel in Region 3, I have paid keen attention to the responses from the PPP government officials.
Many have rightfully expressed their sympathies to Adrianna’s grieving family, demonstrating compassion during a time of unimaginable loss. However, I must highlight a glaring omission — the absence of any “proper statement” or visible presence from the Honourable Minister Deodat Indar.
Minister Indar, who is often quick to defend the PPP Government and to champion its image, has been notably silent and absent in this tragedy, which unfolded right within his own region. This silence raises questions, especially against the backdrop of serious allegations.
It is alleged that Minister Indar shares a business partnership with the owner of Double Day Hotel. Further allegations suggest that it was Minister Indar who directed certain unprofessional media personnel to the hotel on the night of the incident, seemingly to push a narrative that the child had not drowned in the pool — a claim broadcasted live on social media.
Ironically, thanks to the un-professionalism of those very media personnel, the truth was inadvertently exposed to the public. The live footage made it painfully clear: the pool was empty, and nobody was present, raising even more alarming questions about what truly transpired.
Minister Indar’s conspicuous absence from the scene and his silence since the incident have not gone unnoticed. While families mourn and the nation demands answers, it is unacceptable for key officials to retreat into the shadows, especially when allegations of conflict of interest and misinformation swirl around them.
The world is watching. The people of Guyana are watching. Accountability must not be selective, and transparency must not be sacrificed for political expediency. Adrianna Young deserves justice, and her family deserves honest answers — not silence, not cover-ups, and certainly not collusion.
Minister Indar, your constituents deserve better. The PPP Government must remember: the world is not only seeing how you govern in good times, but how you lead in moments of tragedy.
